Introducing Me

Hi! My name is Anabel Prince and I'm a rising third year journalism and film student at UGA. I'm very excited to come to Cortona. I'm from Marietta, GA which is about 90 minutes from Athens and 25 minutes from Atlanta. An interesting fact about me is that my friends call me the "walking IMDB" because I know many facts about films and TV shows and can tell you almost any celebrity's age.

I am taking Italian because I figured I probably should if I'm going to Italy anyways and I needed an extra credit. I speak some Spanish and have taken three college Spanish courses, but I will probably need to freshen up. I hear Italian and Spanish are very similar so that also was a factor in my decision.

I know that Italian culture is much more relaxed than American culture when it comes to things like work, coffee breaks, drinking, etc. At least that is my impression. I know the food is amazing and you walk much more than you would in America. I may be completely wrong, though! Guess we'll see. I would like to learn more about the historical preservation and how daily attitudes lead to Italian's approaches on life.

I listen to alternative music mostly and then some rap music when I am in a party mood. My favorite artists are Vampire Weekend, Fleet Foxes, The Strokes, Tame Impala, HAIM, Best Coast, Arctic Monkeys, Mac De Marco, and also Cardi B (I really love her).

I am such a movie person! I have many favorite films but if I had to narrow them down to two, my favorite "movie" is Clueless, while my favorite "film" is Whiplash. I don't have a specific favorite actor or actress, but I enjoy Indie films very much and find that they have many of the same performers in them, such as Greta Gerwig or the Duplass Brothers. I also have enjoyed most if not all of Joe Swanberg's films. I could talk about movies all day.

I am studying abroad this summer because I knew I wanted to do it eventually and I figured this was the right time. I've had a very difficult and life changing semester and I wanted to take a break from my normal life in Georgia for the summer and explore a new place to learn even more about myself. I went to Europe for two weeks when I was 16 and came back very changed (for the better) so I am excited to see how much I can grow in these two months. I have also wanted to go to Italy since I was young and still have never been! I knew if I ever studied abroad it would have to be here. I am most excited about the food, culture, and wine. I am most nervous about making friends and trying not to be too culture shocked.

mi piace perché

Il Vino

Mi piace il vino di Cortona. Il vino è molto diverso in Italia rispetto all’America. I have been very interested in the wine culture here and how it compares to that of America, especially in my college town. I had never savored wine before I came here. I had tried it and liked it but I had never branched out besides what I had already tried. Once I arrived in Italy, I found that I quite enjoy drier wines and that sitting around with friends and a bottle of wine soon became my favorite activity. I've ...
